Moa 1 Setup & Care

Moa 1 Setup

Site Selection

  • Choose a level, sheltered spot with enough room to fully stake out the tent.

  • For the best protection in wind, orient the head end of the tent into the prevailing wind.

  • Clear away sharp sticks or rocks, but leave softer ground cover (such as grass or leaves) to cushion the floor and reduce splash-up during heavy rain.

Stake it Out

  • Set trekking poles to approximately 120 cm. On softer ground, extend slightly to allow the tips to sink in; on firm surfaces, shorten by a few centimetres if needed.

  • Loosen all guylines and make sure doors are closed before pitching.

  • Begin at the wider head end: stake the two corners at roughly a 45-degree angle from the tent body.

  • Move to the foot end, pull the fabric to ensure the tent is square, then stake the two corners at matching angles. Leave corners slightly loose at this stage to allow for pole placement.

Pole Setup

  • Insert one trekking pole at a time, with the handle at the peak and the tip on the ground or in the grommet provided on the inner tent. Angle the top of the pole slightly outwards for better stability. Stake out the peak guyline.

  • Insert the second trekking pole in the same way and secure it.

  • Stake out the bottom of both door zippers. These can share the same stake as the peak guylines, or you may use separate stakes for additional stability.

Final Adjustments

  • Walk around the tent and gradually tighten all guylines until the walls are evenly tensioned and wrinkle-free. Aim for the bottom edge of the tent to be raised about 10 cm off the ground to allow airflow while maintaining storm protection.

  • If pitching in wet or windy conditions, stake out the end wall guylines for additional support. For the best pitch, do not pull these guylines taut until the rest of the tent is tensioned and wrinkle-free.

  • Attach the corners of the inner tent to the main corner stakes using the provided elastic straps.

Doors and Ventilation

  • The Moa 1 doors can be fully zipped closed or rolled back independently.

  • For ventilation, open both peak vents. You can also keep at least one leeward door open, unless conditions are severe.

Inner Tent

  • The inner tent can be pitched either attached to the fly or set up after the fly is erected.

  • To set up separately: first pitch the fly as described above, then open a door and position the inner tent inside.

  • Attach the inner tent to the fly at the seven connection points, using the provided toggles and loops.

  • Secure the four inner tent corners to the main corner stakes using the elastic straps provided

Moa 1 Tent Care Instructions

Packing Away

  • Remove all gear and contents from inside the tent.

  • Close all doors and detach the stakes.

  • Gently fold and roll the tent to fit into its stuff sack. Avoid folding the fabric the same way every time, as this can cause creasing and weaken the material.

  • Instead of traditional “stuffing,” use a random fold and roll method as this protects the fabric and helps prolong the life of your tent.

Long-Term Storage

  • Ensure the tent is fully dry before storage to prevent mildew or odour.

  • Store the tent loosely folded, outside of its stuff sack, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

  • Avoid storing under heavy compression; Dyneema® is less compressible than nylon and should not be crushed for long periods.

Fabric Repairs

Washing

  • Wash the tent by hand in a bathtub or bucket using warm water and a mild laundry detergent. Do not use bleach or harsh cleaners.

  • Rinse thoroughly to remove soap residue.

  • Re-pitch to air dry completely.

  • Do not machine wash and do not place any Dyneema® Composite Fabric gear in a dryer, as heat can cause shrinking and damage.
